We belong to a great family: The Carthago Group.

We’re proud of our roots.

The Malibu brand forms the Carthago Group together with its sister brand Carthago. Together, we can look back on a success story spanning over 40 years, during which there have been many developments and changes. The premium concept, innovative strength and technical expertise that our group has been synonymous with since its foundation in 1979 has remained the same to this day – and won’t change in the future. This is guaranteed by our founder Karl-Heinz Schuler, who still takes great pleasure in contributing his unique ideas and inventive thinking to this day: “It is my major passion to develop ideas through to product maturity.”

Our history – A true success story.

1979
“We can do better than that” thought Karl-Heinz Schuler after seeing a camping bus. No sooner said than done: On 1st July 1979, he established his own Carthago motorhome brand.
1979
Carthago starts its rapid growth by specialising in VW bus conversions. Solid design, practical and inventive interior, individual special features – even back then, this was already the successful concept.
1985
When the change to the VW T4 took place, different wheelbases and layouts were added, and there was even an initial version with a washroom.
1991
The Malibu Van is back! The modern interpretation of the feel-good camping bus is quickly becoming a favourite among motorhome enthusiasts. The inauguration of Carthago City also took place in Aulendorf in southern Germany with a large sales showroom.
2013
Exclusive presentation at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf: the new A-Class and coachbuilt Malibu motorhomes were impressive! Voted New Product of the Year by AutoBild Reisemobil magazine.
2015
New dimension of freedom! The new Malibu Van Charming GT offers a completely new feeling of space and driving pleasure with a panoramic roof dome. Three new models complete our range of motorhomes: the single bed model I 441 LE, just 6.67 m in length, and the super-comfortable I/T 490 LE and I/T 500 QB models.
2018
Malibu wins the “Camper vans with washroom” category of the promobil reader’s vote. The top favourite is the Malibu Van Charming GT skyview, which gives you a completely new feeling of spaciousness and ride comfort.
2020

Two new models presented! The innovative Malibu Van first class – two rooms and the family-for-4 models with the unique hybrid pop-up roof. We were particularly pleased about the first place in the European Innovation Awards in the “Overall Van Concept” category for this. Introduction of the Malibu GENERATION M. All Malibu motorhomes stand out with a new look and impress both inside and out.

2021
Malibu has reason to celebrate! Our vans and motorhomes receive no less than three awards. In the promobil readers’ vote for the Motorhome of the Year 2022, the Malibu Van is on the winners’ podium in two categories. And the motorhomes win the European Innovation Award in the category overall Motorhome Concept.
2022

Our Malibu Van continues its career and drives successfully into 2023: For the fourth time in a row, first place in the Promobil readers’ vote for Motorhome of the Year 2023, in the category “Campervans with washroom over €60,000” goes to our Malibu Van.

2023

Malibu Van takes second place in the “camper vans with bathroom over €60,000” category of the promobil readers’ vote.

We pave the way for independence. And we maintain it.

Independence is regarded as a precious asset in our company that must be maintained. Not only for our customers – with our integrated and semi-integrated motorhomes and camper vans – but also for ourselves. In our corporate form, to be precise. Since our foundation, we have been an independent, family-run company with a great deal of motivation and passion, characterised by personal commitment. And that won’t change in the future. We don’t want to be indebted to anyone but you, our customers.

Three locations, one culture.

True to our roots yet cosmopolitan in outlook, that is our culture, which can be felt everywhere within the Carthago Group. And when we say everywhere, we really do mean everywhere. Because whether it’s at our company headquarters in Aulendorf, Upper Swabia, or at our two production sites in Odranci and Ormož in Slovenia, our roots in Upper Swabia – a region of inventors and founders – are an inherent part of us. We are proud of them and see them as both an obligation and a promise. We make sure that all of our employees understand this – regardless of whether they work in production, sales, administration, marketing, development or even management.
Speaking of employees, we currently employ just over 1,500 people at our company headquarters in Aulendorf, which includes a large showroom, and at our factories in Odranci and Ormož in Slovenia. This also makes us proud. When it all began in Ravensburg in 1979, nobody could have predicted such rapid growth. All the more reason for us to look ahead to the future full of anticipation and positivity, which already holds some exciting new developments in store for us.
