Travel inspiration: Zugspitz Resort.
Luxury camping with cable car connection
It’s curious when campers from Austria hit Germany’s highest peak without a diversion. At the Zugspitz Resort in Ehrwald-Obermoos, this is normal everyday life.
This camping resort is located at just under 1,300 metres above sea level at the foot of the mountain that gives it its name, in the most beautiful and sunny location of the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. The comfort camping site in Ehrwald offers luxury pitches for Carthago and Malibu motorhomes, among others. All of these are on the sunny side and are equipped with Water and waste water connections, W-Lan and satellite TV.
But that’s not all: these pitches have been laid out near a standard-setting, comfortable bathhouse that was built exclusively for the residents of the De-Luxe pitches. The house, which has a modern design with lots of wood, glass and natural stone, houses 15 very tastefully furnished complete bathrooms. Of course, there are also changing tables. The kitchen-living room has a dishwasher, refrigerators and a cosy dining table. The laundry and drying room is equipped with washing machines, ski and boot room with drying facilities for winter campers and a room for mountain bikes in summer.
The resort also has 170 additional pitches and equally comfortable sanitary facilities. As in the bathhouse, it consists exclusively of complete bathrooms. The use of the indoor and outdoor swimming pools of intimate size, the saunas, steam bath, whirlpools and fitness room are included for all guests of the resort. The same applies to childcare in the mini club for young guests aged four and over, participation in the hiking programme and biking quotes. Campers can also book breakfast and dinner in the à la carte restaurant on site, as well as various wellness treatments.
As far as outdoor life is concerned, a large garden with sunbathing lawn, barbecue areas, a beautiful park on the edge of the forest and a children’s play park with trampoline, giant slide and kettcar track are all part of the camping resort. Sports enthusiasts appreciate the region from spring to autumn for its 300 kilometres of hiking trails and mountain bike trails. From the resort, which is open all year round, you can also experience the wonderful winter world of the Tyrolean mountains. With the free ski bus directly from the resort and the Top Snow Card, 209 kilometres of slopes and 88 cable cars are open in seven surrounding ski areas. Cross-country trails start directly at the resort, including a snow-covered cross-country trail for Nordic skiing enjoyment in case of insufficient natural snow cover.
But the absolute hit, no matter what time of year, is definitely the fact that you can stand on Germany’s highest mountain, measuring almost 3,000 metres, from the camping resort in just ten minutes. In good weather, you can enjoy the 4-country panoramic view of the two- and three-thousand-metre peaks and the only four-thousand-metre peak in the Eastern Alps. Even the ascent in the 100-passenger panorama cabins is an experience. Those who want to enjoy the distant winter view while skiing are in particularly good hands on the Zugspitzplatt. The altitude and the glacier guarantee snow.
