Interior cleaning of your vehicle

This is how you make the interior shine.

Caring for your motorhome or camper van doesn’t just involve cleaning the outside of the vehicle, but also the interior. There are a few things to consider here so that you can enjoy your vehicle for a long time and, above all, so that the materials are not damaged by the wrong cleaning agents. In this report, we have compiled some care tips for you.

Before cleaning

Before you start cleaning, it makes sense to go through all cupboards and drawers and clear them out. Often, in a hurry, you don’t put things back where they actually belong. As you will be cleaning the individual drawers and cupboards later anyway, this is a great opportunity to tidy up.

At the same time, air out everything with the cupboards and drawers open (if possible) and remember to air out the upholstery, mattresses and carpets. It is also best to leave the windows open while cleaning so that evaporating water can be drawn out.

Furniture and smooth surfaces

Surfaces made of real wood or laminated surfaces on cupboards and other furniture probably make up the majority of the surfaces to be cleaned in the motorhome or camper van. It is best to use lukewarm water for cleaning. However, it is important that the cloth or rag is not too wet.  Excess water could cause the wood to swell. Harsh cleaning agents could attack the film.

Coarse soiling is usually more likely to be found in the kitchen, where you can also use mild cleaners as the materials are less sensitive (e.g. glass and stainless steel). Dried grease deposits can be treated with a steam cleaner. The hot water vapour is a gentle method of dissolving the grease without the need to use chemical cleaners. When cleaning the refrigerator, please set it to the fan position and do not forget to clean behind the grille.

Mirrors and windows

When cleaning the windows, make sure that the glass cleaner is not sprayed onto rubber or plastic parts. Solvents in the cleaner can remove plasticisers from the plastic, causing it to crack and become brittle.

Special window vacuum cleaners are well suited to the amount of windows and mirrors in the motorhome to save time and still achieve a streak-free result without much effort. The shower enclosure or mirrors can also be cleaned effortlessly and streak-free.

Upholstery and other textiles

A special impregnation of the upholstery makes it difficult for dirt to penetrate deep into the fibres. Nevertheless, something does get in from time to time. For coarse stains on the upholstery, you can use a wet vacuum cleaner, which you can hire from drugstores or DIY stores, for example. With each pass, the dirt is drawn further to the surface and finally sucked completely out of the upholstery. Isolated stains can also be dabbed off using a microfibre cloth. In extreme cases, a carpet cleaner without surfactants will help. However, please follow the care instructions in your operating instructions. You can use special impregnation sprays to maintain the impregnation of the upholstery for longer.

Floor and storage compartments

Before wiping the floor with a wet cloth, it is advisable to sweep or vacuum the coarse dirt out of the vehicle first. There are now special handheld hoovers for even the smallest gaps, which can reach almost anywhere. When wiping the floors and storage compartments, please ensure that a cloth that is not too damp is used to protect the material.
