Braving the heat in your Malibu

This keeps your Malibu nice and cool.

As temperatures rise, most people are drawn straight to their summer holidays. In many European countries, the thermometer quickly climbs to over 30 degrees. But how can you keep your Malibu camper van or Malibu motorhome cool here? We have a few tips and tricks for you:

Find a shady pitch near water, the coast or mountains: One of the biggest factors affecting the heat in your motorhome is where you park your vehicle. It is best to always look for a shady spot. If this is not possible due to lack of space or a solar system on the roof, park near the water. Apart from the coolness of the water, you can cool off here in the evening before going to bed. It is also advisable to camp near mountains and the coast. Ventilate well in the morning and evening: Ventilate in the morning and in the evening, as soon as it has cooled down, for at least 15 minutes. To do this, open all the windows and doors of your camper van or motorhome to create a draught. It is important that the vehicle can cool down well at these times, as you should avoid keeping the windows and doors open during the day to prevent additional heat from entering. The exception is if it has already become too hot in the vehicle, then try to create a draught by using fans and opening opposite windows.

Extend the awning and sun awning:

Make sure you have as much shade as possible. Extend all the awnings and sun sails you have! These provide shade for your vehicle and help prevent the sun from heating up the interior.

Darken the windows and windscreen:

Always make sure to protect the windows from the sun during the day using blackout blinds and the windscreen using a thermal mat. This not only helps in our cars, but is also a tried and tested method for motorhomes and camper vans.

Cooling cushions and mats:

We often know cooling mats from our dogs, but they also help us humans to cool down our bodies. Cooling mats and cooling cushions have a gel or foam filling that has a cooling effect. When buying, pay attention to both the materials and the right size.

Air conditioning or similar ventilation systems:

Equip your vehicle with air conditioning or similar cooling ventilation systems. This will help you to keep the interior cool both during the day and at night. If you have a dog, this is a must, as this is the only way you can leave your fluffy companion in the vehicle.

Buy a summer sleeping bag:

These are lightweight sleeping bags explicitly designed for warm to tropical nights. They are often made from breathable fabrics to help you have a pleasant and, above all, comfortable night.

Cool the fridge:

Especially when it gets hot, fridges can also have their difficulties. Therefore, always check that the cooling grid is not dirty and that it is not exposed to direct sunlight. In the short term, ice packs and cold drinks can also help to cool the fridge.

Finally, we would like to advise you to always cool down on hot days. Go for a swim and take a cold shower in the evening before going to bed to stay cool in your motorhome throughout the night.
